Young and old enjoy Calusa Blueway
With more than two dozen outfitters and kayak rental vendors along the 190-mile Calusa Blueway Paddling Trail, people of all ages can find a paddling experience just right for them.
Outfitter Tarpon Bay Explorers recently put out this blurb about how the very young and very old can have a ball. Read on to see what Stephanie Ray of Tarpon Bay Explorers has to say:
[imagefield:left:0]Think you are too old to kayak? Or maybe you have thought, “My kids are too young to go out on the water.” Think again! Tarpon Bay Explorers (TBE) has opportunities for all ages to enjoy the wilderness of the J. N. “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge! As the official Refuge concessionaire, the Explorers offer low impact recreational and educational opportunities to explore the refuge with an experienced naturalist by your side. Take Sue Ransohoff from Cincinatti, Ohio for example. The spry 91-year old woman enjoyed a kayak tour of the Commodore Creek Trail with TBE naturalist Kristy Raines. TBE’s Charlie Frese and Steve Shay helped Ransohoff into her boat, and her son shared her double kayak to help her paddle. At the other end of the age spectrum, 2-year old Katrina Costas from Delaware also enjoyed a paddle in Tarpon Bay. The adorable youngster was secured in her life jacket as her mother Aubry paddled the rented double kayak through the mangroves. If kayaking is not your cup of tea the Explorers also offer tours of the refuge on their Coast Guard inspected pontoon boat and accessible trams. The Nature and Sea Life Cruise is a great option for children as it includes a visit to TBE’s Touch Tank Exhibit. The Explorers also offer fishing charters and rent pontoon boats, motorized fishing canoes, bicycles, kayaks and canoes.[imagefield:right:0]
