Want to leave the blueway to get a little green here in Fort Myers?

September 7, 2010

[imagefield:left:0]OK, so it’s not the Calusa Blueway, but the green, lush waters of the inland Six Mile Cypress Slough Preserve are calling you. Leave your kayak at home and join a wet walk. Read below to see what my Lee County Parks & Recreation colleague, Heather Gienapp, has to say about it:

Immerse yourself in the Six Mile Cypress Slough Preserve to help Celebrate National Estuaries Day! Join us for a look at the Slough as we explore what makes this wetland so important on Saturday, Sept. 25, from 10 a.m. until noon.

Anyone ages 12 and older can participate for $5 per person. Reservations are required and must be made by either calling (239) 533-7440 or visiting online at www.leeparks.org. Please wear clothes that can get wet (long pants are recommended) and closed-toed shoes that tie on your feet. Bring a towel, a plastic bag for your wet clothes and a complete change of clothes.

Questions can be directed to Heather at 533-7556. This is your last opportunity for a wetwalk in the Slough until next summer.
