The Un-Road Trip came and went

May 28, 2009

The Calusa Blueway can sometimes be a thru-way.

People who travel the Florida Circumnavigation Saltwater Paddling Trail find themselves along our Calusa Blueway coastal route as they travel from the Alabama-Florida line to the Florida-Georgia line.

And then there’s Boaz Frankel, who is crisscrossing America on his Un-Road Trip.

He joined our blueway inland, near the countyline with Hendry County. I had the opportunity to show him our trail across Lee County from W.P. Franklin Lock, Dam and Recreation Area down the Caloosahatchee to the Cape Coral Yacht Club. (We were headed all the way to San Carlos Bay and Punta Rassa, but thunderstorms forced an early end to the trip.)

Today, Boaz is scheduled for the Today Show to talk about his trip.

Kind of makes you want to plan your own, right?

In addition to our Web site here – with its trip-planning tips and such – there are a few others to motivate you. Read and click below.

Read my take on paddling with Boaz in Florida Weekly:

Read the blog on the Un-Road Trip site:

Check out the state’s circumnavigation trail:

Then join the association that supports that trail and has a lot of fun, the Florida Paddling Trails Association:

Even on days you can't get on the water or join us on our blueway here in Southwest Florida, you can use this site, blog and other sites to take a mental day-trip.
