Seeing red
The pressure is always on when you’re taking someone out fishing.
The pressure is even greater when that’s your job and you need to deliver.
Fishing guides know it. I got a taste of it today.
Fortunately, not only do we have great fishing on the Calusa Blueway, but we have great fishing guides in the area who cater to kayak anglers.
More and more, outfitters are becoming specialists in tracking down snook, sea trout, snapper, juvenile tarpon, jack and redfish from kayaks.
Which brings me back to my point of seeing red.
Today, mere feet from my kayak, a fellow angler hooked and reeled in a 26-inch redfish. Its coppery sides, its lovely tail spot, its fight – all great action to watch as we fished Smokehouse Bay in Matlacha Pass.
Where was my fish, you may ask. Well, someone had to be in charge of the camera and answering questions about the blueway.
Ask me what I’ll be doing when the workweek ends? That’s right. My hubby and I plan to launch Friday evening and go back there and find that red’s cousin.
