Fort Myers, Fl., April 4, 2011– Sign up now for the Paddlers Environmental Toolkit Training offered by the Florida Paddling Trails Association (FPTA). Scheduled for May 21, this program is designed to assist paddlers in addressing environmental and wildlife concerns such as invasive species with the goal of being able to recognize and solve the small problems and report the large ones. Call it “Paddling with a Purpose!”

The class will be held on Saturday, May 21 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Half the day will be a class room discussion of PETT concepts followed by a three-hour paddle on the Great Calusa Blueway to reinforce concepts learned in class. The San Carlos RV Resort is located on San Carlos Boulevard, just before the bridge to Fort Myers Beach. Location details are at www.sancarlosrv.com
Cost is $5 for FPTA members or $25 for non-members. The non-member fee includes a one-year membership in the FPTA as well as some take-home resources, snacks and water. Bring your kayak or rent from outfitter Gaea Guides (www.gaeaguides.com).

Owner Connie Langmann, longtime area guide and Florida Master Naturalist, will assist with the paddling portion of the training.
Participants should also plan to bring drinks, lunch, sunscreen and insect repellant. Space is limited, so early registration is important.
