Kayaking is all clear along Beaches of Fort Myers & Sanibel

May 3, 2010

The repercussions of the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico are still to be fully understood. But for now, the Calusa Blueway Paddling Trail is clear. Our shorelines are free of sightings and odor of oil.

That said, here is a comprehensive clearinghouse of information on what’s being called the “Deepwater Horizon” oil spill, including background, response, recovery, human health concerns, and wildlife concerns:

http://gulfseagrant.tamu.edu/oilspill/index.htm.

The Web site is hosted by the four Gulf of Mexico Sea Grant programs. Content will be updated frequently, and visitors should check back often for new and revised information.

Also, the Florida State Emergency Information Line was activated at 10 a.m. today to provide Floridians a link to informational resources regarding the Deepwater Horizon response.

The Florida Emergency Information Line (FEIL) will operate from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. until further notice. The number for residents to call is (800) 342-3557.

An additional Web site for up-to-date information on Florida’s Deepwater Horizon response, as well as health and safety tips, is:
