Kayakers give back to community

November 22, 2010

At Bluegrass for a Blueway on the final day of the 2010 Calusa Blueway Paddling Festival, the event called A Taste of Matlacha raised $1,600 for the Pine Island Food Pantry. Bill Stoelker of the Matlacha Civic Association reports that the check will be presented at the Holiday Bliss in Matlacha Park on Dec. 4. The check will be $100 bigger than the 2009 donation. Pictured here is Theo of Bert’s Bar & Grill, one of a half dozen restaurants that cooked and served food at the Nov. 7 event. Bert’s owner, Bernard Johnson, loves to see his burgers grilled for a good cause. Kayakers from everywhere gathered to eat up and help the good cause, too.[imagefield:right:0]
