Be a smart boater on the Calusa Blueway

February 16, 2010

Ever wonder who has the right of way, a kayak or a powerboat? Even if you know the answer, you may also know what’s right doesn’t always happen. So the burden falls on you to be safe.

Even though most paddlers gravitate toward the American Canoe Association for their skills courses, there is another avenue for general boating information. The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary offers a Boating Skills and Seamanship (Safe Boating) program.

A new session starts today – Tuesday, Feb. 16 – and it’s centrally located in south Fort Myers. Get details at the link below:

My auxiliary buddy, Dan Eaton, tells me there is more space in the class. Never hurts to be more “water wise” whether you’re a powerboater or a paddler.
